A key NCAA official said six schools are going to be facing allegations of Level I violations as early as next month, the latest fallout in the college basketball corruption scandal. Stan Wilcox, vice president for regulatory affairs for the NCAA, told CBS Sports two high-profile programs will be notified in early July, the others at a later date. Level I violations can include such punishments as scholarship reductions, postseason bans and show-cause orders against coaches. NCAA officials said in a statement that it’s likely even more schools will be notified of violations.

Walker would stay with Hornets for less money

Three-time All-Star Kemba Walker said he would consider taking less money than he is eligible to make to stay with the Hornets if that means helping them build a winning team. Because Walker was named to an All-NBA team this season, the Hornets can offer him a five-year ‘‘supermax’’ contract worth up to $221 million — significantly more than the five-year, $190 million deal had he not been named All-NBA. Other NBA teams can only offer a four-year deal worth $140 million when free agency begins June 30.

Undrafted Moore highest-paid slot CB

Less than three years after entering the league as an undrafted rookie, Kenny Moore II was rewarded by the Colts with a four-year deal that will keep their top three cornerbacks together through 2021. The NFL Network reported the deal would make Moore the league’s highest-paid slot cornerback . . . Jeff Pope, the former security coordinator for the Texans, has filed a discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, alleging his firing by the team was racially motivated. Pope, who worked for the team for nearly three years, was dismissed last month.

Froome has six-hour surgery

Chris Froome underwent successful surgery after the high-speed crash that left him with multiple fractures and shattered his hopes of going for a fifth Tour de France title next month, his team said. Froome will remain hospitalized in Paris for observation, He underwent a six-hour operation after hitting a wall at high speed during a training ride before a time trial at the Criterium du Dauphine in the town of Roanne on Wednesday. The Dauphine is a traditional warm-up race for the Tour de France, the three-week showpiece race Froome and his teammates have dominated in recent years.

Maximum Security to race Sunday

Maximum Security is heading back to the races. The colt, who two months ago crossed the finish line first in the Kentucky Derby only to be disqualified, was among six 3-year-olds entered for the $150,000 Pegasus Stakes at Monmouth Park on Sunday . . . Santa Anita has put together a five-member team to review horses’ medical, training and racing history for the final six racing days at the Southern California track where 29 horses have died since December. The track’s season ends June 23, with racing Friday, Saturday and Sunday this week and next.

IAAF, Russia at odds

The IAAF denied promising that Russia will be reinstated in time for the track and field world championships, after Russian state TV quoted the country’s top track official as saying he’d received guarantees. Broadcaster Match TV published what it said were remarks from Dmitry Shlyakhtin at a meeting with athletes this week, saying ‘‘we will go to Doha [for the championships] under the Russian flag. At least, those promises have been made to me.’’ The Russian track federation didn’t respond to a request for comment . . . Caster Semenya won another court decision in her battle to get track and field’s testosterone regulations thrown out. The Olympic 800-meter champion’s lawyers said the IAAF, the governing body of athletics, has failed with an urgent request to Switzerland’s supreme court to have the testosterone rules immediately re-imposed on Semenya. The Swiss supreme court ruled earlier this month that the regulations should be temporarily suspended for Semenya, who has appealed against them.
