There are three new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Western Health region of Newfoundland and Labrador, a press release from the Department of Health and Community Services said on Saturday.

The three new cases are all females under the age of 19, are close contacts to a previous case and are all members of an “extended household.”

Since they were close contacts of a previous case, the three females were already in quarantine. All close contacts of the previous case were told to quarantine and contact tracing is finished.

The total number of cases is now 282 in the province, with 269 people having recovered and 46,359 having been tested.

In the same statement, the department said it was advised by the Public Health Agency of Canada that the COVID-19 outbreak at Teck Coal Mine in Elkford, British Columbia, is over.

“The agency defines an outbreak as over, when two full incubation periods or 28 days, pass since the last reported case at the site,” the release said.

However, they wish to remind rotational workers to continue self-isolation guidelines.
