It has recently come to light that a robotic arm located outside of the International Space Station (ISS) is still functioning after being hit by orbital debris last month.
Canadian Space Agency (CSA) revealed that a hit was noticed during a routine inspection of Canadarm2 on May 12 despite the precautions taken to reduce the potential for collisions with the ISS.

The release states that experts from the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) worked together to take detailed images of the area and assess the impact. The collision coccurred on one of Canadarm2's boom segments.
However, the results of the ongoing analysis revealed that the arm's performance hasn't been affected despite the impact caused by orbital debris. The damage caused is limited to a small section of the arm boom and a thermal blanket which led to a visible hole of approximately 5mm in diameter.

Canadarm2 is currently continuing to conduct its planned operations which includes hoisting Dextre into position to replace a faulty power switchbox (Remote Power Control Module). Moreover, NASA and CSA will continue to gather data to conclude the analysis and the near-term robotics operations will also continue.
According to NASA, there are approximately 23,000 pieces of debris larger than a softball that orbits the Earth. This space debris travels at speeds up to 17,500 mph, which is quite fast for a small piece of debris to damage a satellite or a spacecraft.
