With over a million people migrating to cities like Niagara in hopes of catching next week’s total solar eclipse, experts are warning the public not to stare directly at the sun — even when it’s partially covered by the moon.
Prolonged sun gazing can result in permanent vision damage, ophthalmologists say, and should never be done without proper eye protection — save for the few brief minutes during a total eclipse, when all light from the sun is blocked out by the moon.
