TORONTO – Vladimir Guerrero Jr., came out of Saturday’s game against the Seattle Mariners after the second inning due to what the Toronto Blue Jays described as left knee discomfort.
The club added that he’s undergoing further evaluation.
There was no obvious cause for the issue, although Guerrero did make an awkward defensive play in the top of the second inning, cutting in front of shortstop Bo Bichette to field an Austin Nola grounder before twisting his body to throw against his momentum to first base.
Guerrero used his left leg to slow his body three times before firing across the diamond, coming a hair late to get Nola at first.
Last year, Guerrero was sidelined June 7-July 16 with a strained patellar tendon in his left knee.
