Toronto Maple Leafs: Most Likely to Be Traded - Editor In Leaf

The Toronto Maple Leafs are off to a decent start to the year.

Other than Freddie Andersen, the team has been perfectly fine. Sure the defense is occasionally an adventure, but the offense tends to make up for that.

A couple saves here and there, and the Leafs could have been undefeated going into the Tampa game.  Not much you can do about the egg they laid there, but whatever you can’t win em all.

And don’t forget, Tampa was off to a tough start and had just got back their version of Mitch Marner.  They were bound to win that game.

Here’s a new thing I’m gonna try out: I’m going to make a weekly article where I just sum up my weekly thoughts into bullet points.  Please keep in mind this was written prior to last night’s game.

Tanner’s Thoughts on the Leafs in General

  • The Leafs need a new coach.   Personally, I just want someone who thinks and coaches the game in a way that is more in line with the GM’s philosophy.   I’d like to see someone is capable of in-game adjustments, at the very  least.
  • Andersen has to be better.  And he will be. No worries here.
  • I hate Marner on the PK.  Don’t tire your best players out for no reason.  After the PK, when your oppenent’s best players are tired, stack a line (Tavares, Matthews, Marner) and attack their duds. Stars on the PK are a bad idea for so many reasons.
  • Change the Power-Play personnel. Wasting Nylander on a second unit is unforgivable.
  • Mikheyev, Kerfoot and Moore are so good, that once Hyman comes back, there’s no need for both him and Kapanen.  One will get traded.
  • Nylander shouldn’t be between six and ten total minutes of ice-time less than Tavares, Matthews and Marner.  He might not even be the fourth best out of that group.
  • Morgan Rielly and Cody Ceci are a god-awful pairing.  You need to pair Rielly with someone who is defensively responsible, not the AHL version of Morgan Rielly.  To date Rielly and Ceci are only getting 40% of the total scoring chances that are occurring when they are on the ice. Why Mike Babcock thinks this is a good idea is beyond my comprehension to understand.

That’s it! I hope you enjoyed the bullet point recap, and if you didn’t you know where to find me!  Here’s hoping the Leafs won last night!
