Glasgow stargazers capture International Space Station passing brightly over city - Glasgow Live

Stargazers in Glasgow have been treated to the fantastic sight over the past few days of International Space Station (ISS) passing brightly in the sky above the city.

Visible to the naked eye, NASA’s state-of-the-art orbiting research facility has made some very bright passes above us late in the evenings on a number of ocassions.

With clear skies last night and on Friday seeing people take to social media to upload photos and videos they captured of the glowing space station - the largest man-made object in space - as it appeared for a few minutes.

Measuring around 350ft in length, the ISS is currently habited by a crew of two Russian cosmonauts and one NASA astronaut and orbits at a height of about 264 miles, travelling around the earth 15 times a day.

And, should the sky be clear tonight, Glaswegians will be able to spot the ISS approaching from the west at 11.43pm this evening for a four minute period.

The passes over UK skies are unique in that they only happen a few times per year, with a combination of plane free skies and the ongoing lockdown making for a real one-off for keen stargazers.
