Residents of a central Calgary high-rise that has become a local hotspot for COVID-19 received on-site testing from Alberta Health Services Friday and Saturday as case counts in the building continue to climb.
As of Saturday, 40 residents of the Verve Condominium in East Village had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, with 31 of those cases remaining active. Three of those infected were admitted to hospital.
Cassandra Raugust owns All Details, a small business that cleans four units in the Verve building that are used as Airbnb rentals. She is currently awaiting COVID-19 test results herself after worries that she may have contracted the virus on the job.
“I’ve been in there almost every other day for the last month,” Raugust said.
“A realtor that hired me let me know that there had been two confirmed cases and asked me if I could spend some extra time in the units, really sanitizing. Then within a week there had been 34 confirmed cases, so I called AHS and they told me to cease operations and get tested.”
