LOOKING BACK: Tyendinaga Township - Quinte News

Every year Quinte News looks back at the year that was across the Quinte region, with all municipalities in our listening area.

We talked with Tyendinaga Township Reeve Rick Phillips about the challenges and victories of 2020.

He says COVID-19 changed the game.

“We did not run many of our programs or events such as the Christmas parade.  All of the minor sports of course were cancelled.  We were fortunate that we were able to help South Hastings (baseball league) and a series of games to keep that streak alive.”  (note:  South Hastings baseball is one of the longest continuing baseball leagues in the world.)

Phillips says road resurfacing, the completion of Boldrick’s Bridge on Shannon Road, upgrades to the recreation facility, work on an emergency power back-up system, and manoeuvring through the COVID pandemic were at the forefront of the past 12 months.

“The only capital project that we were hoping would be done this year (2020), but it was postponed, was the roundabout at Deseronto and Belleville Road.”

That project is in lockstep with the Town of Deseronto, and the County of Lennox and Addington.
