There has been another positive case of COVID-19 reported in the Kirkland Lake area.

Officials from the Timiskaming Health Unit are “confirming one new positive case of COVID-19 (#65), in the northern part of the District of Timiskaming. The case is under investigation and the individual is self-isolating. Contact tracing is underway and those who have been identified as close contacts have been, or are in the process of being notified.”

It should be noted that according to the Health Unit’s chart which is located on their website, four cases have been resolved. That means the running total of active cases is now 23.

Earlier on Monday the THU sent out an advisory which stated there was another potential for COVID-19 exposure.

Officials said if anyone “attended the evening Christmas dinner event at the Encore Club in Kirkland Lake on December 19 (they) may have been exposed to COVID-19.”

Meantime officials from Blanche River Health confirmed they have five patients admitted to the Kirkland and District Hospital; all in stable condition and added “this situation is placing significant pressure on our hospital resources.”
