The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit has declared the COVID-19 outbreak at Skyline Lancelot Apartments to be over.

A statement from the health unit says the outbreak is over as of Tuesday night.

“It is important to recognize the hard work and collaboration of Skyline Living Corporation, the North Bay Regional Health Centre’s Assessment Centre and the residents and staff of the apartment complex in their efforts to help stop the spread of COVID-19 within the apartment building,” the statement said.

The health unit declared the outbreak in early February.

Since then, a total of 45 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the outbreak, including 38 residents and seven visitors or non-residents. The numbers may include individuals who do not live in the health unit district.

As of Wednesday, 23 of those individuals were confirmed to have the variant of concern from South Africa, while eight have received positive test results for a variant, but the exact strain has not been identified. These numbers are expected to be reflected in the health unit’s COVID-19 update later this afternoon.

Three people have died in connection to the outbreak and remain the only COVID-19 related deaths to date in Nipissing District.

All remaining cases have since resolved and there are no pending COVID-19 test results, the health unit says.

“The COVID-19 community outbreak at the Skyline Lancelot Apartments has been the most devastating COVID-19 outbreak we have faced during this pandemic,” medical officer of health Dr. Jim Chirico said.

“Three people lost their lives and many others fell ill. It has been an extremely stressful time for all those living at Skyline Lancelot Apartments. We are still investigating the outbreak and hope that the findings will help to prevent a similar situation somewhere else.”

The public is encouraged to continue following public health measures, including staying home as much as possible, practising physical distancing of at least two metres from those who do not live in your home or where you live, wearing a face covering indoors and whenever physical distancing is difficult, washing or sanitizing your hands often, coughing and sneezing into your sleeve, avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth and cleaning high-touch objects and surfaces often.

If you think you may have COVID-19 symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive, first self-isolate and then use Ontario’s self-assessment tool to see if you need to seek testing or further care at covid-19.ontario.ca/self-assessment/

If you need further assistance, call your health-care provider or the health unit at 1-800-563-2808. If you have severe symptoms, such as difficulty breathing, you should call 911 and mention your symptoms if you are able.
