Kansas Apologizes After Raucous Snoop Dogg Performance at 'Late Night in the Phog' - Sports Illustrated

Kansas athletic director Jeff Long apologized on Saturday to "those who were offended" by Snoop Dogg's performance at "Late Night in the Phog" in Allen Fieldhouse on Friday.

The Jayhawks hosted a "Late Night in the Phog" preseason celebration on Friday night before scrimmages for the men's and women's basketball teams. But Snoop Dogg's performance reportedly included "pole dancers, a money gun and profanity," leading to Long's apology, per ESPN

"We apologize for the Snoop Dogg performance at Late Night," Long said in a statement. "We made it clear to the entertainers' managers that we expected a clean version of the show. ... I take full responsibility for not thoroughly vetting all the details of the performance and offer my personal apology to those who were offended. We strive to create a family atmosphere at Kansas and fell short of that this evening."

Kansas head coach Bill Self was not thrilled with Snoop Dogg's performance, despite appearing in a promotional video for the event on Sept. 27.

"That's not the direction that anybody at our school would want that to go at all," Self said. "Regardless of the entertainment that it provided many, it was still not the right way to provide the entertainment."

Kansas will open its 2019-20 season against Duke at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 5. Its first home game will be against UNC Greensboro on Nov. 8.
