Blue Jays’ Devon Travis elects free agency after triple-A assignment - Sportsnet.ca

Infielder Devon Travis has declined his outright assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays to triple-A Buffalo and elected to become a free agent on Thursday.

The Blue Jays originally made the move to outright Travis on Nov. 4 to free up a spot on the team’s 40-man roster — now back down to 40 players.

Travis did not play for the Blue Jays in 2019, instead of spending the year recovering from left knee surgery. In 2018, he struggled to a .656 OPS in 103 games.

The 28-year-old was acquired in 2014 in a trade with the Detroit Tigers and made his major-league debut the following year. He finishes his stint in Toronto with a .274 batting average, .751 OPS and 35 home runs in 316 games.
