Canadiens place Jonathan Drouin on IR with upper-body injury - Sportsnet.ca

The Montreal Canadiens have placed forward Jonathan Drouin on injured reserve after sustaining an upper-body injury during the third period of Friday’s game against the Washington Capitals, the team announced.

Drouin left the game in the second period after being on the receiving of a thunderous hit from Washington’s Alex Ovechkin.

Ovechkin cut across the defensive zone and launched himself into the playmaking forward, landing on top of him.

Drouin, 24, returned to the game in the third and played 4:33 in the period. He finished the game with three shots in 12:20.

The third-overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft has 15 points in 19 games with the Canadiens, his third season with the club.

In a corresponding move, the Canadiens announced that forward Charles Hudon has been recalled from the AHL’s Laval Rocket.

Hudon has recorded 11 points across 17 AHL games in 2019-20.
