Montreal Canadiens vs. Boston Bruins

How to watch

In the Canadiens region: TSN2, TSN Direct (English), RDS, RDS Direct (French)
In the US: NBCSN
Streaming: NHL.tv/ NHL Live

Called up a few days after Jesperi Kotkaniemi was placed on the Injured Reserve list, it appears Ryan Poehling will be thrown right into the middle of the action tonight, slotting into the centre of the third line with Paul Byron on his right and Artturi Lehkonen on his left. Nick Suzuki, who had been in that role (in offensive-zone situations at least), will play in Jordan Weal’s spot on the right side of the fourth trio, bumping Weal from the lineup once again.

With the last change, Claude Julien will likely try to get a favourable matchup for Poehling, and perhaps use Phillip Danault for any defensive faceoffs as we saw when Suzuki skated there. It’s going to be a challenge for Poehling to hit the ground running versus the second-place team in the NHL, but the coach will hope his player can call upon the performance from his debut seven months ago.

His playmaking skills will be welcome as his wingers tonight have had difficulty getting on the scoreboard so far this season. It was a nice pass from Suzuki that set up Lehkonen for the only goal in Dallas on Saturday, so perhaps that will get the Finn going a bit more, if he can adjust quickly to new setup man.

In net, Carey Price gets another home start while Tuukka Rask takes the crease for the Bruins after Jaroslav Halak got a win last night versus the Pittsburgh Penguins. Rask’s career record versus the Habs may be just 11-16-4, but eight of those wins have come in the last 11 games. He’s been especially effective at the Bell Centre, winning his last six starts.

Montreal will need to get offence from everywhere if they’re going to pull out a win tonight. It won’t be easy versus the NHL’s top defence, but it’s a chance to show their depth can overcome even the toughest opponent.
