12 shots of the supermoon over Vancouver last night (PHOTOS) | Etcetera - Daily Hive

If you happened to look up to the sky in Vancouver last night, chances are you were treated to the sight of the spectacular supermoon over the city.

According to NASA, the term “Supermoon” was was coined by the astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979 and refers to either a new or full moon that occurs when the Moon is within 90% of perigee, its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit.

In a typical year, this means there can be three or or four full Supermoons in a row, the agency states.

And for those who caught a glimpse of the moon last night, it was the last Supermoon for 2020.

If you didn’t get a chance to marvel at the supermoon, you can relive the event thanks to these shots shared by residents on social media.
