This weekend offers perfect conditions to see meteor shower - Medicine Hat News

By Medicine Hat News on December 12, 2020.

There is the potential for some spectacular sky gazing this weekend.

The Interpretive Centre at Police Point Park suggests that from sunset to sunrise, until Monday morning, there is an opportunity to watch the annual Geminids Meteor Shower. There could be as many as 150 meteors an hour to see.

The new moon falls on Dec. 14, 2020, leaving the sky moon-free and darker to maximize the chance to see this year’s Geminid meteor shower. Sunset will be at about 4:20 p.m. and a few Geminids may enter the atmosphere at a shallow angle and burn slowly across the sky. Later into the evening, the meteors tend to be bold, white and quick.

Additional information is on the Interpretive Centre’s website, Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
