Anthony Kay, T.J. Zeuch to be among Blue Jays’ September call-ups - Sportsnet.ca

TORONTO – Left-hander Anthony Kay, part of the return from the New York Mets for Marcus Stroman, and right-hander T.J. Zeuch will be among the additional September call-ups for the Toronto Blue Jays, according to an industry source.

Since Kay pitched Sunday for triple-A Buffalo – a messy outing in which he allowed nine runs, three earned, on seven hits and three walks in 2.2 innings – he won’t be active immediately but will join the team later.

The 24-year-old struggled initially upon being promoted to triple-A by the Mets but in seven starts at Buffalo, he posted a 2.50 ERA on 33 hits and 22 walks with 39 strikeouts in 36 innings.

Zeuch, a first-round pick in 2016, finished the season strong at Buffalo, posting a 3.69 ERA over 78 innings, allowing 70 hits and 32 walks with 39 strikeouts. The sinkerball specialist threw a no-hitter Aug. 19 at Rochester.

The Blue Jays will need to make additional moves to add both Kay and Zeuch to the 40-man roster.

Outfielders Jonathan Davis and Anthony Alford, along with shortstop Richard Urena are also expected to join the Blue Jays for the final month of the season.

The Blue Jays have already added catcher Beau Taylor and left-hander Thomas Pannone this month while activating Ryan Tepera and Clayton Richard from the injured list.
